The garter toss was really a riot, I laughed so hard. All those single men gathered together with a growing excitement while they watched the groom remove the leg garter from his bride. Then watching them fall all over each other, trying to be the lucky guy to catch it. What was really funny was that the winner of the garter toss was talked into participating by the other guys and he was a widower in his 70’s. As the old man walked off with the garter in hand he was smiling from ear to ear.
For the bridal toast we all had crystal champagne flutes, that we were also given to take home, with the names of the bride and groom, and date of the wedding printed on them. After the toast it was time for the bride and groom to take their place on the dance floor for their first dance together as husband and wife. Watching them dancing together, so elegantly, was so moving. When the bride and grooms dance was finished, everyone joined them for the next song. My poor feet suffered the consequences of my all night dancing.
Finally it was time for the bride and groom to depart for their honeymoon, and we all said our good byes. Hawaii was the honeymoon destination, from what I was told by one of the guests. I’m sure their honeymoon will be just as wonderful as their wedding day was. We all stay for quite a while after the bride and groom left and partied ourselves into exhaustion.
It was only a couple of weeks later that I got my thank you card from the happy couple thanking me for sharing their wedding day with them and for the wedding gift I bought for them. I was surprised to receive a thank you so soon. I did manage to get the information on the website that she ordered everything for the mikasa favor from and the unique wedding cake topper too. Each box had the name and of the bride and groom and the wedding date etched in them. The thank you gift my daughter gave the girls was very warmly received. At my husbands bachelor party the guys bought him some cool tee shirts that had things printed on it like, how he survived his bachelor party and one that just said groom on the front. He also received as a bride and groom gift, a groom sun visor, a mug with the word groom printed on it and a wine gift set. He came home from the party with an inflatable doll and a ball and chain that he said they made him wear the whole time the party was going on. The guys had other funny bride wedding gifts they gave him, to ad to the merriment of his bachelor party. My girlfriends gave me some lovely bride gifts, but I got my share of joke gifts along with them. They gave me a shimmering white satin purse with a clasp made of crystal on it and a ribbon on top to boot. There were some feminine items like a manicure set in the bag, along with a tee shirt and pin that were designed for the bride to wear at a bachelorette party. They got me a ‘tonight’ pillow that, when you flipped it over, said ‘not tonight’ to go with whatever mood I’m in. It was definitely an unusual and funny throw pillow.
On the other hand, the bride and groom wedding gifts we got the reception were all more serious. We did get extras, like a couple of extra toasters, two identical set of dishes, and more waffle irons than we’ll ever need, but that’s par for the course with such a large wedding. We did get some of the things I had written on to our bridal registry, like the china I wanted and the food processor. One of the gifts my husband truly loves is his bar side set, which also included a very nice pool table from his dad and mom. The plane tickets to get to the Greek Isles for our honeymoon came from my folks. We received a lot of wonderful gifts on our wedding day from our loving families and fantastic friends.
Having all our friends and family around us on this more than special day meant more to us than anything. They have shared so much with us, our last night of being single parties, our engagement party, and our wedding and reception. It’s good to know you have so many people that care this much about you and are there for you during the good times and the bad. It also helps to have friends that care enough to throw you a wild night with a bachelor party or a mind trippin girls night out bash. Having friends in your life like ours can really make life worth living. We will send out thank you cards to all our friends and family, but that doesn’t really show just how much we adore them.
